Burning questions

(Cremation jokes included.)

Is this a will?
No. imdeadgirl isn't a will, a trust, or estate planning, and nothing here is legally binding. It's your wishes, written down for the people who'll want to honor them. For money, property and kids, talk to a lawyer.
Who can see my plan?
Nobody, until your death is confirmed. Then only the people you chose, and only the parts you chose for each of them. Letters go only to the person they're addressed to.
How do you know I've died?
We check in with you on your schedule. If you don't answer for 3 days (after daily reminders), we ask the people on your list. One of them has to confirm before anything is shared.
What if someone confirms it by mistake, or as a prank?
You'll have had three days of reminders first. And if it happens anyway, sign in and prove you're alive with a code; we cut off access right away and tell your people.
What happens to my stuff after I die?
We keep it for one year so your people can see and download it, and remind them before it's deleted. If they're not ready to let go, one of them can become the keeper and keep everything longer for the yearly price of your plan. Otherwise it's deleted for good.
I lost the link to someone's wishes. How do I get back in?
Go to Lost your link? and enter the email address it was sent to. If anything was shared with that address, we'll email you new links. Have an imdeadgirl account with the same email? Sign in and you'll find it under Shared with you on your dashboard.
Can I write about someone who's already gone?
Yes. “People who shaped me” is for the grandma, the teacher, the best friend: whoever made you who you are, still here or long gone. Add a photo, say what they meant, and how your people can remember or honor them. Basic has room for 1, Bougie for 5, and we never contact anyone on it.
I don't know how to write my obituary.
Our Ghost Writer (Bougie) can help. It interviews you or works from what you've already shared, writes a draft, then makes it funnier, softer, shorter or more dramatic. Nothing changes until you say so.
What if I stop paying?
Check-ins stop and nothing would be shared. We keep your stuff for 12 months, remind you 30 and 7 days before, and then delete it. Renew anytime before that to pick up where you left off.
Can I buy imdeadgirl for someone else?
Yes, if you're a member. Open Gifts in your account and buy a year of Basic or Bougie for up to five people at a time. Each gift has its own link to send. They sign up as themselves, with no card needed, and the plan is theirs. After a year they can add a card to keep going. You'll see whether they've used it, never what they plan.
Can I get my stuff out?
Yes. Settings → Download my stuff gives you a zip of everything: your plan, obituary, letters and photos.
Is there a free plan?
No, but Basic is $1 a year, and we hand out promo codes now and then.
Wait, can guys use this?
Absolutely. “Girl” is a state of mind. Men, theys and everyone in between are welcome to plan a legendary send-off. We will still call you girl, though. Non-negotiable.
Can I use it outside the US?
Not yet. imdeadgirl is US only for now.
This is a lot. Are you okay?
We hope so! Planning for death is healthy, but if you're having a hard time, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) any time.
